To ensure Anand Gurukul remains a self-owned, self-managed institution with decentralized and democratic participation, the appointment or election of roles are tiered across 4 time cycles (6 months, 1 year, 2 years, and 4 years). This system allows for accountability, continuity, and community ownership, while ensuring no single individual or group can dominate.

Below is our recommended role structure for Anand Gurukul across the given cycles:

 

EVERY 6 MONTHS – Rotating/Review-Based Appointments

Focus: Engagement, Performance Feedback, Internal Upliftment
These roles allow for rotation, fostering grassroots leadership and training future core members.

  1. House Captains & Cultural Ambassadors
  • Elected from students and teachers
  • Promote discipline, cultural events, values, and student voice
  1. Class Parent Representatives (CPRs)
  • One parent per class
  • Interface between school and parent community
  1. Staff Welfare Coordinator
  • From non-teaching staff
  • Liaises with admin on staff wellbeing
  1. Student Council Leadership (Junior & Senior)
  • Selected by peers and mentors
  • Voice of the student body
  1. Community Liaison Volunteer
  • Coordinates with local communities, events, and guests

 

EVERY 1 YEAR – Administrative & Operational Appointments

Focus: Annual accountability and operational refreshment

  1. Academic Coordinators (Primary, Middle, Senior)
  • Oversee curriculum planning, teacher performance, student assessment
  1. Events & Programs Head
  • Designs and manages the annual calendar of programs, fairs, meets
  1. Maintenance & Infrastructure Officer
  • Oversees repairs, upkeep, and campus utilities
  1. Financial Auditor (Internal)
  • From among trusted staff/volunteers
  • Reports to the Board on fund use, procurement
  1. Admissions and Outreach Coordinator
  • Designs admission campaigns, visits communities, interfaces with newcomers

 

EVERY 2 YEARS – Middle Management & Policy-Oriented Roles

Focus: Policy stability and medium-term execution

  1. Vice Principal(s)
  • Academic or Operations
  • Assist Principal, act as acting head if needed
  1. Board of Academic Advisors (5 members)
  • Senior teachers and external educationists
  • Meet quarterly to review pedagogy and outcomes
  1. Strategic Planning Committee (SPC)
  • Manages 2–3 year strategic growth, new branches, curriculum upgrades
  1. Donor and Partnerships Director
  • Builds long-term relationships, handles CSR partnerships, scholarships
  1. Technology & Innovation Lead
  • Introduces new EdTech tools, maintains learning systems

 

EVERY 4 YEARS – Executive & Ownership Governance Roles

Focus: Institutional integrity, long-term sustainability, legal structure

  1. Principal / Head of School
  • CEO equivalent
  • Must align with vision, values, and mission
  • Vetted by Board, voted by staff and key stakeholders
  1. Governing Board (7–9 members)
  • Mix of founding members, educators, community leaders
  • Responsible for financial oversight, legal compliance, appointments of Principal
  1. Chairperson of the Board
  • First among equals
  • Sets Board agenda, ensures governance
  1. School Constitution Review Committee
  • Reviews school policies, ethics charter, organizational constitution
  • Proposes amendments if needed
  1. Independent Ombudsman / Ethics Officer
  • Investigates grievances impartially
  • Ensures checks on leadership and operations

 

ADDITIONAL PRINCIPLES TO ENSURE SCHOOL-CENTRIC GOVERNANCE

  • No external ownership: All power and property held in the name of Anand Gurukul Trust.
  • No individual holds more than 1 long-term role at a time.
  • All meetings minuted and transparent to stakeholders.
  • Succession planning: Each major role has a deputy or understudy trained for continuity.
  • Parent, alumni, and community forums feed into board discussions annually.
